Lung disease affects the ability of the lungs to exchange gases. It can be:
- a congenital disorder - one that is present from birth - like cystic fibrosis or;
- an acquired disorder (one that has been caused over-time) - like COPD.
Some diseases can be a mix of both.
They can also be split into ones caused by direct tissue damage or one causing a reduced ability to ventilate.
