Lesson 2: Examples of Monomers and Polymers

Examples of Monomers

  • amino acids - which form proteins
  • nucleotides - which form polynucleotides
  • monosaccharides - which form disaccharides and polysaccharides

Polymers are complex molecules formed by joining monomers. They are composed of many monomers joined together using covalent bonds.

Examples of Polymers

Proteins are formed using condensation reactions to join amino acid monomers together.

Carbohydrates are formed using condensation reactions to join monosaccharides together.

Enzymes are formed of polypeptide chains.
