Let's look deeper into how Papers 1 and 2 are structured (they're quite similar).
Firstly, in Paper 1 and 2 there is mainly a mix of short- and long-answer questions which will include everything from basic recall and ask about facts that you need to know, to see whether you can apply knowledge to unfamiliar topics. There will also be maths-based calculations as usually more than 10% of the paper is maths related.
