Lesson 4: Respiration and Energy

Plant and animal cells release energy from glucose

Plant and animal cells respire - releasing energy from glucose.

  • This energy is used for biological processes like metabolic reactions.

There are two types of respiration.

At GCSE, you would have looked at two types of respiration.

  • aerobic respiration - respiration using oxygen
  • anaerobic respiration - respiration without using oxygen.

The products of anaerobic respiration are carbon dioxide, water and energy.

Anaerobic respiration is a little more complicated.
