Antibody production
Plasma cells are clones of B-Cells and they secrete antibodies specific to the antigen - known as monoclonal antibodies. Antibodies have two binding sites, meaning that they can bind to two pathogens at the same time. This allows agglutination to occur and pathogens form clumps. Then, phagocytes can carry out phagocytosis on many antigens at the same time.
Antibodies are a protein formed from amino acid chains. They also have variable regions and constant regions.
- Variable regions are specific to the antibody, forming unique binding sites which are complementary to a specific antigen
