Lesson 8: Polysaccharides

What is a polysaccharide?

A polysaccharide is formed when more two monosaccharides are joined together during a condensation reaction forming a glycosidic bond.

Here's a few you need to learn

Molecule Description
Starch This is a polymer made of alpha glucose found in plants. It's a mixture of amylose, a long unbranched chain, and amylopectin, a long branched chain of alpha glucose.
Cellulose This is a polymer made of long unbranched chains of beta glucose found in plants
Glycogen Similar to starch, it's a polymer made of alpha glucose, but it's found in animals.

Woah... that's a lot of information... let's break it down.
