All multicellular organisms use gas exchange surfaces.
- Gas exchange surfaces are parts of the body that are specialised for gas exchange.
At GCSE you would have learned:
- There are three main gases in the air that are exchanged, being oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide.
- Gas exchange is the 'swapping' or exchange of gasses.
- Diffusion moves oxygen out of alveoli and into the blood.
- Gas exchange allows oxygen to travel into your cells for respiration while also removing carbon dioxide, a waste product of respiration.
- Respiration is vital and all living things do this to stay alive.
