Lesson 2: Interphase

Interphase is subdivided into three growth stages called G1, S and G2.

  • In G1, cell growth happens.
  • In S, DNA synthesis happens (DNA is unravelled and replicated).
  • In G2, the cell grows some more before the mitotic phases begin.

During interphase, cells undergo normal activities as well as their preparation to divide.

  • DNA is unravelled and replicated
  • Organelles are replicated
  • ATP content is increased (to provide energy for cell division)
