Lesson 4: The Trachea

When you're dissecting the gas exchange system, it's important to understand where everything is.

  • The trachea should be visible without making any incisions in the lungs.
  • It is the tube running into the lungs surrounded by C-shaped cartilage rings.

The trachea splits into two bronchi.

  • Once you continue to cut down the trachea and into the bronchi, it branches into smaller branches over the lungs.
  • These smaller branches are called bronchioles.
