Cyclins are proteins that determine whether the cell should move on to the next stage in the cell cycle.

  • Cyclin activity is influenced by different proteins.
  • Proteins can stop the cell cycle.

In cancer cells, the cell checkpoints are not working correctly.

  • This means that the cycling is not controlled.
  • Cancer cells initiate the cell cycle even if cell division is not required.
