Lesson 7: Photoautotropism

Photosynthesis happens in all photoautotrophic organisms.

  • A photoautotrophic organism is one that uses light to synthesise - or make - organic molecules.
  • Green plants that convert carbon dioxide into carbohydrates in the presence of sunlight are called photoautotrophs, and are primary producers.

Biological molecules produced by photosynthesis are consumed by other organisms.

  • We call this the nutrient cycle (this is another topic covered in Geography).
